Electrical (Outside) Line Worker-Apprentice

Massena Electric Department (MED) is accepting applications for an Electrical (Outside) Line Worker Apprentice. This position assists journeyman level line workers in the erection, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electric power systems by performing a variety of operations and does related work as required. *Position Summary* Qualified individuals shall meet the minimum following criteria: * Simple understanding of the basic concepts of electric power distribution systems * Familiarity with the terminology, tools and materials and safety precautions of the trade * Ability to attain efficiency in climbing utility poles * Familiarity with CPR/AED and first aid techniques * Ability to follow simple oral and written directions * Physical strength and stamina to perform arduous manual labor and to withstand adverse weather conditions * Ability to obtain/maintain commercial driver’s license, Class B. * Willing to complete work outside of normal business hours and to accept on-call responsibilities. * Must reside within a 20-mile radius of the Massena Electric Department main office at 71 E Hatfield Street Massena, NY. * Successful applicants will work and train to become a first-class line worker pursuant to Article XXXX, sections 1 – 4(b) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. *Minimum Requirements* * One year of experience as an electrician’s helper or construction laborer and graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by some training in a trade school; or any combination of training and experience. *Compensation and Benefits* $35.15/hour (subject to Article XXXIX Section 6 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement) Comprehensive benefits package includes but not limited to: * New York State Retirement System * Health insurance * Paid vacation and holidays *Application Instructions* The complete job description and applications may be obtained at https://www.massenaelectric.com/jobs.
