HVAC Mechanic helper

About this job
Precise HVAC LLC is a Jackson Heights, Queens mechanical contractor serving commercial and residential buildings across NYC — rooftop units, water-source heat pumps, VRF/VRV, central splits, PTACs, ERVs, and residential boilers in 1–4 family homes. Our customers are property managers, condo boards, and building owners who have used us for years because the work holds up and our word holds up.
We are hiring ONE full-time helper for our field crew. This job is for someone who wants to get into the HVAC field with a company that does the work right — someone who likes mechanical work, is good with their hands, solves problems, and wants to get better at the craft every week. It is not a laborer position, and it is not for someone who is just looking to learn. You bring real trade skills; we add HVAC on top of them.
WHAT YOU WILL DO *Work as the second man on a two-man crew on maintenance, service, and install jobs across NYC: carry, stage, measure, cut, drill, fasten, assemble, clean, and keep the job moving. * Run maintenance the way we do it: blower wheels, coils, drain pans and lines, filters, belts, electrical and mechanical inspection, readings — and take over maintenance visits on your own as you are signed off, one job type at a time. *Do ductwork, piping, and insulation to our standard: fittings, offsets, transitions, hangers, sealing. * Keep the van stocked and organized and the mechanical room cleaner than you found it. *Document every job: before/after photos, checklist, plain notes. * Find and note problems on every visit. When you spot something and it turns into an approved repair, you get a spiff.
WHAT WE NEED *1+ years hands-on in a trade — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, auto or industrial mechanical. You can read a tape, lay out work, and use drills, impacts, reciprocating saws, grinders, and hole saws without being shown. * Valid driver's license — REQUIRED. You will drive the company van when needed. A truck of your own comes with the Technician rung, not on Day 1. *Able to lift 50 lbs alone and work on ladders, roofs, and in mechanical rooms (with or without reasonable accommodation). * Your own basic hand tools. We provide specialty tools, meters, and PPE. *HVAC school or EPA 608 is a plus, not a requirement. We pay for your EPA 608 test. Until you have it, you do maintenance and install work, not refrigerant — that's federal law, not our rule. * Authorized to work in the United States.
WHO DOES WELL HERE *You show up on time, and you call before start time if you can't. * When you finish what you were given, you look for the next thing instead of waiting to be told. *You'd rather say "I'm not sure, let me ask" than guess. * When you make a mistake, you say so the same day. Reported mistakes get fixed together. Hidden mistakes end employment.
WHAT WE OFFER *$22.00–$27.00 per hour based on your hands-on evaluation at the shop and on the working interview — not on the resume. * Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, year-round. Overtime at 1.5×, and there is overtime in season. *Quarterly performance bonus. It is earned on four things: the work is done right the first time, every job is documented, you solve problems instead of waiting on them, and you raise issues before they become callbacks. * A written skill ladder: Apprentice → Technician → Lead Technician, with sign-offs you can see and a raise review at 90 days. Techs who come up through this get the truck, the maintenance spiffs, and profit-share eligibility. *Paid EPA 608 certification. 40 hours paid sick leave per year. W-2 payroll with direct deposit. *
*HOW WE HIRE 1. Short phone call (10 minutes). 2. In-person at our shop (about 60 minutes): hands-on tests — panel removal and reassembly, a duct cut-and-fasten, a measuring and layout task — plus a few questions. 3. Paid working interview: 2–3 real workdays on payroll at your quoted rate. 4. Reference call with your last supervisor. 5. Offer, then a 90-day introductory period with written expectations. We reply to every qualified applicant within a few business days. Apply with a resume or a plain list of where you have worked and what you have done with your own hands. Equal opportunity employer. Employment is at-will and begins with a 90-day introductory period.*
